You’re Getting Sleepy

I love to sleep.   I didn’t realize how important a good nights sleep was until lately.  The lack of sleep can have such a large impact on many different aspects of your health as well as your whole life.

There are many different health issues that can be linked to sleep Apnea.  Some of these include weight loss/gain, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and depression.

Over the next few weeks, we will be taking a closer look into all of these issues.  Today, we will look into depression.  Depression is increasingly being recongized as a condition involving how your body functions.  It’s about how we feel about ourselves and how we respond to different events in our lives.

Some signs of depression are: down or low moods, feeling sad, loss of interest in things that generaly bring pleasure, significant weight loss or gain, loss of energy,difficulty making decisions and irritability.

Here are a couple tips for a better nights sleep.

1.  Maintain a regular wake time.  7 days a week.

2. Only go to bed when drowsy.  Do not fall asleep outside of the bedroom.

3.  Possibly taking a warm bath, eating a light snack, or reading will relax you before bed.

4. Only use your bedroom for bed.  NO T.V. or lounging.

In summary, if you are having difficulties falling asleep or staying alseep or awakening too early you may be showing signs of depression.  If you are showing multiple symptoms please consult with your health care provider.

History of the Nursing Uniform

Before the 19th century, the first nursing uniforms were derived from the nun’s habit.  That was because beck then the nuns took care of the injured and sick.  Florence Nightingale started a nursing school and it was one of her students that designed the original uniform.  She designed it to look somewhat like the nuns habit because they wanted to be considered in the same ranks as the “Sisters”.
Nursing uniforms have continued to have little change throughout the year’s.  However in the 1980′s we saw a movement towards an alternative design.  That was also around the time when the male nurse became more prominent.
I can’t imagine that the early nursing uniforms were very comfortable to wear.  With today’s technology Peaches uniforms are made with a 65% Poly’ 35$% Cotton enzyme washed material that is both fashionable and function able.  They also have a Med Couture line devoted for men.

In many parts of the world, nurses continue to wear the White uniform with cap.  But now in the USA, hospitals are having nurses wear different colors depending on what unit they serve.

 I love the look of the older nursing uniform but would rather wear today’s style.
