Spring, Spring, Spring!!!!

Spring, the transition season between Winter and Summer.  When I think of Spring or “Springtime” I have ideas of rebirth, renewal and regrowth.  Longer days and warmer temperatures.  Baseball and beaches, the list goes on and on…

There are many different health issues that can be linked to sleep Apnea.  Some of these include weight loss/gain, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and depression.

Over the next few weeks, we will be taking a closer look into all of these issues.  Today, we will look into depression.  Depression is increasingly being recongized as a condition involving how your body functions.  It’s about how we feel about ourselves and how we respond to different events in our lives.

Some signs of depression are: down or low moods, feeling sad, loss of interest in things that generaly bring pleasure, significant weight loss or gain, loss of energy,difficulty making decisions and irritability.

Here are a couple tips for a better nights sleep.

1.  Maintain a regular wake time.  7 days a week.

2. Only go to bed when drowsy.  Do not fall asleep outside of the bedroom.

3.  Possibly taking a warm bath, eating a light snack, or reading will relax you before bed.

4. Only use your bedroom for bed.  NO T.V. or lounging.

In summary, if you are having difficulties falling asleep or staying alseep or awakening too early you may be showing signs of depression.  If you are showing multiple symptoms please consult with your health care provider.
